This guy has fantastic taste and
deep pockets, but is unwilling to spend more than he thinks something is worth (even though many of thes
e prices are wild).

This would be me if I had deep pockets, but it would be 90s and early to mid 00s BMWs.

Don’t look at my bid history - I think the highest I’ve ever gone on anything is about $10k.

That is some good taste. And some deep pockets.
I’m dumbfounded by some of these prices. The Integra he’s currently bidding on is a nice car, but if he wanted to drive it he’d probably have to go through the whole thing and replace a bunch of stuff because it sat so long.

Amazingly enough, there are (few) things on there that I would’ve wanted to win, had I been willing to toss in a lower bid. I remember an Eclipse GSX that went for like $1800. I would’ve easily paid more for that.
Hell, a local S2000 went for just over $10k on BaT. Deals are out there, but few and far between.
Also, tossing a bid out there is more fun than just clicking “Watch” :).

A quick peek shows that the 40k for that one might be a deal. A yellow one with similar mileage is already at 46k and lower mileage ones are 50k+. That's nearing the price of a new boxster or a Corvette..... For a 10 year old Honda.

I see those low mile cars and think, man, the years those spent not being enjoyed. My CRX Si was thoroughly enjoyed (and kept stock). I wonder what happened to that poor car...
There’s an average mile S2K near me now that supposedly only needs a clutch for $7k. They’re on my short list for a fun car when I’m finally ready to pick something up next spring.

Here’s my dilemma: any car that I want to have to take to the track, I also want to be able to drive it to work on nice days, and enjoy the occasional long back road drive with. So, I’ve accepted that I’ll never be the fastest around the track, because I need to have a suspension setup that’s actually acceptable from around-town driving.

I certainly agree with that logic, the KW clubsport setup was passable on groomed CA roads and now feels iffy in the ragged midwest roads.
The idea was to find a reliable, easy to work on platform that could fit all of the junk for a weekend (and a passenger) and a half cage / harness setup. The Z4MC felt like too nice of a platform for this so I have been kicking around the Z3C, S2000, Miata ND or BRZ. Reality is I don’t make it out to enough events a year to make it worthwhile and I am non-committal on selling the Z4MC.

Everyone, including my wife says this. It’s staying - hoping for some rainy day funds to add the CSL motorsport intake (+ tune) in the next year or two.
It is completely unnecessary but part of my long term goal for the car. PFC track pads and hpde supplies are needed first.

Ooh... that’s pretty.
I’m always on the fence about investing more money into my car. At this point, I’m pretty content to keep driving/maintaining/enjoying it as is. Wondering at what point I’ll bite the bullet and get the RBs done, or if I’ll leave that to the next owner (assuming there ever will be one of those - ha!).

I’m not wild about the 991.1 (don’t like the front fascia) , but that’s a NICE one.
Those cars are reliable as hell too so I’d have no problem buying one with that money miles provided it’s well maintained and the interior is in good shape. Only problem I have with them mechanicall y is how much labor is involved just to change the damn air filters.

I want a 991.2
I got to stand under one that was on a service left at my dealer. Dude, there is like no exhaust piping. The turbos are coupled directly to the manifold, are bolted directly to the cats on the other side , and there is very short piping that dumps straight into a single center muffler. Those turbos must spool instantly!!
And aside from that, they fixed the aesthetic issues I had with the 991.1

When you think about how rare the CLK Black is and how good it is, that’s damn cheap.
There’s a guy at the other end of neighborhood with a Pagoda stashed in his garage. He also has several classic Mercedes wagons and a couple of AMG’s. He dailies a Smart car.

I love/hate when you see someones bid history and they have bid bottom dollar just to say they “bid”... I hate when people do that but when I get near the end of an auction I can get an idea of how serious the bidders are.
When I was bidding on the 02 there were 4 in it including me but only one guy who was serious so I would just wait for him to bid and beat him by the lowest increment until he gave up

$70,000 for an ITR still melts my brain a little. Very nearly bought one back in the day. Not kicking myself too much, because I would have driven the crap out of it, the way Honda intended. But still, the amount they sell for is almost staggering.
